Richard C. Christianson died at his home in rural Amery on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the age of 76 years. Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday prior to the service. There will also be a memorial service at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby on April 13 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Coon Prairie Cemetery.
Richard Carl Christianson was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin on December 8, 1936 the son of Edwin and Hilda (Sidie) Christianson. He grew up in Westby and graduated from Westby High School in 1955. He worked for Erickson Transport after graduation. On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marlene C. Hoff in Westby and to this union two children were born. Richard was transferred to Springfield, Missouri with his job. After a number of years he returned to Westby and worked in transportation for the Sloan Brothers. He later took a job with Goodyear Tire Company and lived several places as his job moved. Richard served in the 32nd National Guard Unit and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Coon Valley, Wisconsin. He enjoyed watching stock car racing and traveled to several tracks to enjoy this past time. In 1977 they came to Amery and purchased the Northside Grocery Store in rural Amery. He enjoyed fishing, but his real passion was deer hunting which he enjoyed with friends and family. After his wife passed away he continued operating the Grocery Store until 2009 when he retired. Richard died at his home in rural Amery on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He was 76 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene, infant daughter Melissa and infant brother Charles. Surviving family members include his son Todd and wife Deb of Amery; grandchildren Melissa and Jason Christianson; great grandchildren McKinzie and Allison; sister Shirley Hagen and her husband Monte of Westby and brother-in-law Ron Hoff as well as other relatives and friends.
