Scott "Tipper" Braaten was born on August 20, 1941 in Geneva, Wisconsin the son of Lloyd and Ethel (Scott) Braaten. His family moved often but Scott spent his early years in northern Illinois. He graduated from Geneva High School in Geneva, IL. He served in the United States Army where he was a quartermaster involved in parts distribution. After being discharged from the service he spent his time in Illinois, Wisconsin, and California working in several locations, often as a bartender or produce manager. He then became a traveling wholesale salesman. He was united in marriage to Marilyn McCoy on August 13, 1977. They lived in California for a short time before coming to Amery, Wisconsin around 1980 to be closer to his parents. He continued his wholesale sales and he and Marilyn traveled many miles before retiring in 2004. He lived in the Amery area the rest of his life. Scott was active in supporting Promise Keepers and attending church was always a big part of his life. He managed to make church connections even when out on the road. He enjoyed time with family and friends, playing cards, dominoes or just visiting. He was always willing to help and support others in need, being willing to give of himself in any way possible. Health issues made it necessary for Scott to move to Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery for a few days prior to his death on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the age of 74 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, and sons: Scott, David and T.J., Brother Donald and two Sisters Ruth Ann and Jean. Surviving family members include his children: Ryan (Annie) Braaten, Kelli Braaten, Jeff Elliot, Lisa Elliott and Tricia Burkett; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother Tom (Alma) Braaten, girlfriend Lenore Tahank as well as other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Scott's life will be held at the Williamson-White Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
