Sharon Ione Monette, age 74, passed away peacefully into everlasting life on March 3, 2017 after a long struggle with Parkinson Disease. Sharon and her loving husband Ed had resided on the "north end" of Lake Wapogasset since 1974. More recently, Sharon had been cared for by the compassionate staff at River Bend Assisted Living for the past five plus years until late January 2017 when she transitioned to care at Willow Ridge Healthcare. She was born on July 7, 1942 in Clear Lake, Wisconsin, the oldest daughter of Manther and Bernadette (Berray) Gilbertson. She was baptized on August 11, 1942 at Moe Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith there in 1956. After attending Edgewood Grade School, which was within walking distance of the family farm, she graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1960, where she was an excellent student and played saxophone in the Marching Band, Pep Band, and "Blue Notes" Dance Band.

Right after graduating from CLHS, Sharon along with her "cuz" Kathie (Gilbertson) Lien found employment and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. Sharon was later employed by Doboy in New Richmond, Wisconsin, where she met, and on November 3, 1962, married Edward A. Monette, her husband of 54 years. They, along with their three children, Michael, James, and Michele, resided in New Richmond, Wisconsin, until 1974, where Sharon was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She worked at the Sears Catalog store in New Richmond until the family moved to their home at Lake Wapogasset. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she was very active with the Sunday School program, was a member of the Stained Glass Window committee, participated in Women's Bible Study, and was Church Secretary for several years until she lost her hearing in 1979. She would later participate in the then ground-breaking cochlear implant program at the University of Minnesota and regained some of her auditory ability. She was an avid water color artist and enjoyed that along with scrap-booking, playing the piano, baking, crocheting, and was an expert rosette maker. She loved dogs and had a special relationship with "Tracy" and "Chelsea" and "Molly". When physical limitations made some of her passions difficult or impossible to continue, she maintained her solid faith and relationship with Jesus Christ and her joy of life. Friends and family will always remember Sharon with her beautiful smile. She was an "over-comer".

Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Manther Gilbertson; and her mother, Bernadette (Berray) Gilbertson. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Edward; sons Michael, and James (Anne); daughter Michele (JJ Wiley); along with grand-children Aimee (John) Stauber, Marc (Natasha) Monette, Jennifer (Luke) Lee, Stephen Monette, Matthew Monette, Elizabeth Monette, Laken Fahl, and Bailey Fahl; along with great-grandchildren Oliver Stauber, Preston Monette, Alice Lee, Mary Lee and step-great- grandson Levi Stauber. She is also survived by brother Gordy Gilbertson, and sister Julie (Brad) Poye along with many nieces, nephews, and their families, and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery, Wisconsin, with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at Moe Lutheran Cemetery with a family service at the internment.
