Stella Elizabeth Welsch was born in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Gustave and Magdalen (Dill) Wellnitz. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from high school there. In 1944 she was united in marriage to Edward Joseph Welsch in St. Paul. With Ed still being in the armed services they lived away from the twin cities for a short time before returning and living in White Bear Lake and St. Paul over the next many years. In 1972 they moved to a home on Lake Wapogasset near Amery, Wisconsin and in 1982 bought a home in the Pondhurst addition of Amery. Stella enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, and was active in her church for many years. She also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. After Ed's death she remained at her home in Pondhurst. The past few days she was a resident at Willow Ridge Healthcare where she passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the age of 92 years.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband Edward Welsch, her parents and all five of her siblings. Left to mourn is her son Paul (Betsy) Welsch; eight grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery. There will be visitation on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and for the hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
