Thelma (Tooter) Marie Kittel nee Mickelson, age 80 of Amery passed away on Sunday, June 1 at River Bend Assisted Living in Amery surrounded by her family.
She was born at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire Wisconsin on October 5, 1933 to Peter and Olga (Albert) Mickelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township.
She graduated from Colfax High School in 1951 and the Dunn County Normal School in 1953 where she received her teaching certificate. On June 4, 1955 she was married to Duane (Dude) Kittel at Zion Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born.
She taught for the Colfax School District at the Pine Grove School until 1958 and they moved to Amery in 1959. She completed her four year Elementary Education Degree at UW-River Falls, and she served as substitute teacher for many years before beginning work for WITC in New Richmond as an adult basic education instructor. She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Amery, Sons of Norway and the Red Hat Society. Tooter loved to have coffee with friends and was always in the mood for dancing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Kittel, parents, Peter and Olga Mickelson, sister, Ethel Losness, brothers, Herbert, Wesley, Stanley, Ralph, and Donald Mickelson
Thelma is survived by her children Sally (Neil) Pickard, Peter (Cheryl) Kittel and Susan (Ward) Erickson. Six grandchildren Lisa (Michael) Markee, Heidi (Josh) Williamson, Kyle Kittel, Eric Kittel, Ryan Erickson and Megan Erickson. She also was blessed with four great-grandchildren, David and Anna Williamson and Peter and Krista Markee and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 10:30am at the First Lutheran Church in Amery with the Reverend Tim Bjorge officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Zion Cemetery in Dunn County. Visitation will be held at the Williamson-White Funeral home in Amery from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday and one hour before the service at the church.
