Vera Jeanette Vaughn was born on July 5, 1925 in New Hartford, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Evelyn Sells. She grew up in Iowa and after graduating from high school she worked at the Rath Meat Packaging Plant where she worked herself through college earning a degree as a LPN. While working at Allen Memorial Hospital she met her William. On February 19, 1949 she was united in marriage to William G. Vaughn in Waterloo, IA. They had two children. They stayed in Iowa until the early 1960's when they moved to Clear Lake, Wisconsin where they farmed for many years. They sold the farm in 1977 and moved to Amery, WI. They enjoyed their retirement traveling to Texas and Mississippi, were they would spend their winters. They also enjoyed spending their summer months camping, fishing, and pontooning with their grandchildren. When not spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren Vera also enjoyed canning, baking, gardening, and always had beautiful flowers. She was a member of homemakers in Clear Lake and enjoyed quilting, and sewing. After her husband's passing she lived with her daughter Denise in Amery for three years. She became a member of the Congregational Church. As a member she volunteered with various church activities. She also enjoyed her time spent with her son delivering the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Amery. After selling her home in Amery she moved to Almena. After her health deteriorated she moved to Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery. While living there she was well loved by staff, residents including her good friend Linda. After a long struggle with several health issues Vera died at Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Evelyn Sells; husband William, Brothers Dutch and Neil Sells, Sisters Leatha Podvin, and Leasa Bleeker. Left to mourn are her children: Denise Paquin of Amery, WI and Dale (Patricia) Vaughn of Barron WI; five grandchildren Measha Vaughn (Andy Bennett) of River Falls, WI; Marcey Vaughn (Darnell) of Clear Lake, WI ; Melanie (Mike) Becker of Turtle Lake,WI; Jeremiah Paquin of Baldwin, WI; William Bakkestuen of Amery,WI. Six great grandchildren; Daniel, Natasha, Lukas, Deonte, Gabrielle and Beau. Sisters Garnet Hartshorn of Mississippi; Gordon (Joanne) Sells of Arkansas; Anita (Dennis) Gumke of Clear Lake, WI; Donna Olson of Hudson, WI and other nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Amery. There will be a visitation for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.
