Vern S. Hagen was born in Amery, Wisconsin on September 17, 1925 the son of Morris and Alice (Selvig) Hagen. He grew up in rural Amery and graduated from Amery High School. He went on to college to earn his teaching degree. He started out as a teacher and eventually became a school superintendent. On June 1, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jean Kolling. They lived in Amery, Wisconsin for a time before moving to Marcell, Minnesota. They also lived in Balaton, Minnesota, Cottonwood, Minnesota and Blackduck, Minnesota. During his life he was a member of Toastmasters and Lions Club. He was also a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts. They were living in Brooton, Minnesota, but the past two years have been at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, Minnesota where he passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the age of 89 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Marvin. Left to mourn are his wife Jean; sister Erma Johnson as well as other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Amery. There will be visitation for the hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the East Immanuel Cemetery.
