Willie L. Olson was born on April 6, 1918 in Garfield Township of Polk County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Lewy and Mollie Olson. He grew up in Garfield and attended the Wanderoos School through the eighth grade. He went on to attend Osceola High School graduating in 1936. He was united in marriage to Martha Lockwood and together they had one son, Lorne. He was later married to Daisy Osborn and they had one son Lynn. He was awarded the Prestigious Klussendorf Award, the highest award given to the top dairy showman in the United States each year at the World Dairy Expo. He loved working with his cattle and traveled all over the country to show them. Willie was an avid baseball fan and especially liked watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a very active reader all his life. Willie died at the Osceola Medical Center in Osceola, Wisconsin on Tuesday evening May 25, 2010 at the age of 92 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha, wife Daisy, son Lynn; sisters: Beulah Scruton and Emma Gaetz; brothers: Arvid Olson, Donald Olson and Knute Olson. Left to mourn are his son Lorne (Cindy) Olson; brother Sherman Olson; sisters: Audrey Irons, Gloria Erickson and Carol Patterson; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at West Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Osceola. Pastor Rexford Brandt will officiate. Organist will be Dana Hansen. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church.
